Convoy in the Park

A huge part of George Davies Turf’s success is down to the vehicles that allow us to swiftly deliver fresh turf from site to garden. It’s been quite a journey and transformation for our team on wheels; from George’s Peugeot 306 and trailer back in 2001, to a whole fleet of Scania trucks. So, it was extremely exciting for us to appear at one of the UK’s biggest truck shows!

Invited as a guest of Eamonn Bolger from MEB Equipment, George and the family were able to bring along Pippa Jean, our 22 plate Scania, with the attached Manitou TMT 25 S demountable forklift truck. Not only did this raise our own profile, but George could also showcase Pippa Jean to haulage firms and truck enthusiasts who had travelled from all over the country to Convoy in the Park.

WHAT IS CONVOY IN THE PARK?

Every year, the internationally renowned motorsports circuit, Donning Park, puts on a super-sized truck-fest. The weekend of August 20^th – 21^st hosted a bumper-filled show for truck fans and businesses, with a lorry-load of displays, stages, truck racing and suppliers. As well as amazing entertainment including live music, fun fairs and a truck action arena – offering something for everyone!

SHOWCASING THE SCANIA
Parked up at the Manitou UK stand, George took along our new 22 plate Scania to showcase its favourable features such as its fuel-efficiency, low-weight cab, smooth drivability and spacious interior. In addition to this, was our new Manitou TMT 25 S demountable forklift truck that sits on the back of our lorries and has evolved the way we deliver turf – enabling us to move hundreds of rolls efficiently with even more care and attention.

Our bold red colouring and fresh George Davies Turf branding made quite a statement at the festival; drawing in crowds and allowing George to demonstrate how the Scania lorry and Manitou forklift truck, combined with our skilled drivers, makes our service unique.

WHY OUR TRUCKS ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE TEAM

Our core values include great customer service along with high quality turf and value for money. A big part of meeting these values is ensuring that your turf is delivered to you when you need it, wherever you need it.

Back in the day, this involved George making several trips in his Peugeot 306 and trailer, which could only hold 40 rolls of turf, and handballing each one. Now, our Scania P 410 lorries can pack up to 960 rolls at a time and travel to multiple destinations within George Davies Country.

Our lorries also have the Manitou TMT 25 S demountable forklift truck attached to the back; so, once we reach our destination, we can easily move your turf efficiently from the lorry, to where it needs to be laid. Basically, we couldn’t do what we do without them!
