What Is Millboard Composite Decking?

Millboard composite decking is a stunning, low-maintenance alternative to natural wood decking. Handmade in the UK and styled on authentic oak timbers, it’s indistinguishable from the real deal – without the downsides of traditional wood!

Millboard is a type of composite decking, which means it’s less slippery than timber and comes in a wider variety of colours, textures, and finishes — from rustic to elegant — making it a practical, chic, and durable choice for landscaping your garden.

WHAT IS MILLBOARD DECKING MADE OF?

Millboard decking is made from revolutionary Polyurethane resin, reinforced with mineral stone, and surfaced with a unique Lastane® coating. Whereas conventional composite boards typically contain wood fibre, flour, rice husks, and plastics, Millboard uses stronger, more advanced materials that won’t rot, split, or host algae.

So, what is polyurethane?

Polyurethane is a material that’s supple like rubber but rigid and hard-wearing like plastic, meaning it won’t warp over time. Being seamless and water-resistant, polyurethane is trending in many modern interiors. It’s one of the most stable resin materials available, and because there’s no wood content, the boards can’t play host to damp or insect larvae. In short, it’s the perfect material for outdoor use all year round.

WHAT TYPE OF MILLBOARD DECKING IS AVAILABLE?

Enhanced Grain

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MILLBOARD DECKING?

An authentic wood decking is beautiful, but it comes with a lot of maintenance. Composite decking offers that natural wood effect with countless additional benefits:

Stunning aesthetics

Millboard is designed to mimic the beauty of natural wood, and we’d challenge you to spot the difference! The bonus with composite decking is that you avoid all the pitfalls of natural wood. Millboard is carefully crafted to mirror real timber’s grain patterns, colours and textures for a gorgeous finish that enhances any outdoor space.

Weather resistant

As a non-porous material, your Millboard decking won’t absorb water, making it an ideal option for installations near water. This resistance to water means no rotting, warping, or algae growth. Millboard’s surface is also designed to resist stains, scratches, and UV fading, maintaining its pristine appearance for years.

Low-maintenance

Composite decking requires zero staining, sanding, sealing, or oiling. This saves you time and money and means your deck is always ready to use. Its polyurethane core and Lastane® surface make it highly robust and resilient to scuffs, scratches, and weathering. The most you have to do is clear away fallen debris and wipe away any spillages.

Durability

Designed with the strength and quality of natural wood, your Millboard decking is built to last. The polymer core and Lastane® coating make it resistant to everyday wear and tear and exposure to the elements. Making Millboard a fabulous investment in your landscaping project.

Easy to install

With its bespoke range of subframes, Millboard has been designed to easily fit into any garden or landscape. Their bespoke subframes provide a sturdy base that can securely elevate to your preferred height. With robust Durafix Screws, you can quickly fit your boards and watch the screw heads disappear under the Lastane® coating for a smooth finish.

Safety first

Every Millboard range has a textured surface to provide superior slip resistance. This means your deck is safe to use on rainy days and is ideal for structures next to pools or water features. For additional grip, opt for the Lasta-grip boards, which include an extra textured strip to increase slip resistance. Of course, being wood-free also means your composite decking is splinter-free!

Eco-friendly choice

For those looking to increase their sustainability efforts, Millboard provides precisely that. As a wood alternative, composite decking helps reduce the need for deforestation. Its purposely designed long lifespan means it doesn’t need to be regularly replaced, and by producing it within the UK, it helps reduce our carbon footprint.

MILLBOARD MAINTENANCE MADE SIMPLE

One of the huge selling points of Millboard is that it’s extremely easy to care for. There are only a few recommendations for homeowners to keep their Millboard decking in top condition:

  • Keep the surface clear: A quick sweep with a broom or garden hoover will remove fallen debris and keep your decking looking as good as new.
  • Wash away stains: Millboard’s stain-resistant surface will prevent most stains, even red wine and BBQ grease! But soapy water will wash away stubborn stains and keep your deck pristine.
  • No treatments required: Unlike wood decking, Millboard doesn’t require staining or sealing. Saving homeowners time and money and creating a deck ready to use all year.

HOW TO INSTALL MILLBOARD DECKING

No matter your deck’s size, shape or height, Millboard decks are easy to handle, cut and install. When installed with the Millboard subframes, it’s a quick process with a professional finish. It often only takes four simple steps to install Millboard decking:

  1. Subframe installation: Millboard decking can be attached to timber, composite, or aluminium joists. Ensure the ground has been prepped correctly, and build your subframe securely with adequate spacing and levelling.
  2. Check drainage: Like any external installation, you want effective drainage away from structures and directed to the edges of your garden. Make sure you check your leverage as you install your Millboard and decking.
  3. Cutting and fixing: Millboard boards can be easily cut to size with a standard wood-cutting tool. The boards are secured with Millboard’s recommended Durafix screws which leave no visible screw heads for a flawless finish.
  4. Edging and Fascias: Add the final touch with matching edging and fascia boards. These hide exposed areas and create a neat, professional look. You can also use Millboard’s touch-up paint for any cut ends.
