Garden makeover for a family in need in Welwyn Garden City

In August 2024, George Davies Turf was contacted by Erin, a Support Officer at Hertfordshire County Council with regards to a garden project for a local family in Welwyn Garden City.

Facing health issues and a range of complex challenges, the family of four were in desperate need of an outdoor space that their children could enjoy and feel safe in.

Working in partnership with local gardeners Steve and Justin, with their recently launched venture Embracing Spaces, George Davies Turf were keen to offer their support, donating bags of topsoil, fertiliser and turf.

Steve from Embracing Spaces said, “The garden was overrun with brambles, weeds and rubble (there was no grass, not even a tiny little blade of it). Having worked with families with complex needs previously, and even now, when working as gardeners we feel that we understand the importance of space and what this means holistically. This new venture is all about supporting families in need, enabling them to reclaim their space whilst also empowering and inspiring them and taking pride in what they can achieve.

This project has really brought the family together, watching them get involved has been fantastic. For us it’s all about sowing the seeds of positive change, and enabling others to be seen, valued and heard, whilst also guiding those we work with to appreciate the importance of embracing and nurturing their environment. The aim is to provide a starting point which inspires others to be creative and hopefully build upon the work that has been undertaken to enhance and transform their surroundings.

None of this would be possible of course without the support and donations of likeminded businesses and individuals, and from the moment I spoke to George Davies I knew he shared this passion. From the delivery driver to the logistics manager, everyone I spoke to at George Davies Turf has been fantastic. They adapted to our tight timeframe and the quality of products were exceptional. I’d love to work with them again in the future on similar projects.”
