Product is only half the story here at George Davies; delivery and after-service are just as important. We want every single customer to feel looked after right from your very first contact with us.

Each delivery is made on rigid trucks mounted with forklifts, allowing us to place your products exactly (within reason) where they suit you. Long, narrow tracks and placing bags around the back of your home along with gravel driveways are not a problem. We just ask for a 9ft-by-9ft access to enable the forklifts to get through with ease.

Here at George Davies Turf, we want to make life as easy as we can for you; our website boasts a three-day lead time; however, if you need it sooner, please give us a call, as we normally work on a two-day turnaround.

Our skilled drivers are highly trained and cool under pressure. If you have any limitations at all, please tell us ahead of time at the point of order or add notes to your online order. Trust us when we say our drivers truly make difficult deliveries easy.

Delivery FAQs

Preparation

  • Measure and Mark: Start by measuring and marking the dimensions of your patio for clarity.
  • Excavate: Dig out the designated patio area to a depth of 200mm to accommodate the sub-base and mortar bed.

Installation Guide

  • Install the Sub-Base: Lay a compacted sub-base, ensuring it reaches a depth of 150mm for a sturdy foundation.
  • Create the Mortar Bed: Mix sharp sand and cement to form a mortar bed approximately 25mm thick.
  • Position the Slabs:
    • Apply Primer to the Slab. We recommend using EasyPrime to coat the underside of each slab with a minimum of 2mm layer of primer. Use a trowel or roller to apply the primer evenly across the back of the slab.
    • Gently place each sandstone slab onto the mortar bed and tap it into position with a rubber mallet. Check that each slab is level and aligned with adjacent slabs, ensuring consistent spacing between joints for a clean, uniform look.
  • Curing Time: Allow the mortar bed to cure for a minimum of 24 hours after laying the slabs.
  • Joint Filling: Once cured, fill the joints between the slabs with pointing for a finished look.

After Care

  • Sealing: After installation, apply a coat of EASYSeal SSP (Stone Sealer & Protector) for long-term protection. This water-based, invisible sealer protects the stone from water, oil, and dirt without altering its natural appearance.
  • Regular Cleaning: Clean your sandstone patio regularly to prevent dirt and moss buildup. Use a mild detergent and a soft brush to avoid damaging the stone. (This should be done with a non-acidic cleaner to ensure your natural stone is not damaged)
  • Pointing Maintenance: Periodically check the pointing for any cracks and repair them to maintain the patio’s integrity.

What is the best method for cutting natural sandstone?

Use a wet saw with a diamond blade or an angle grinder, secure the stone, and make slow, controlled cuts along your marked lines, finishing with a grinding tool to smooth any rough edges.

What Joint Width Should I Use with Natural Paving?

We recommend using a joint width of 8-10mm for optimal results in natural paving. Fill the joints with either Azpects EasyJoint or Azpects EasyJoint Select to ensure a long-lasting and stable installation.
