The Benefits of Porcelain Paving Slabs

Porcelain paving is fast becoming the go-to choice for homeowners and professional landscapers alike. But why? It often comes down to porcelain's structural properties and its gorgeous appearance!

As a non-porous surface, porcelain resists moss, algae and moisture, while the textured finish provides excellent slip resistance, even in wet conditions. It’s also frost-resistant and easy to clean, making it a highly versatile landscaping material, and a popular option for patios, paths and much more.

Delivery Policy
Delivery FAQs

Does Catherine Stone Porcelain become slippery when wet?

Most of George Davies’ outdoor porcelain, including Manor Stone, is manufactured with a textured, slip-resistant surface. This helps keep it safe underfoot when wet or dry, making it suitable for pathways, patios, and areas around water features.

How do I clean porcelain patio slabs, and how often?

The great advantage of porcelain is its low maintenance. In most cases, a regular sweeping and occasionally washing with water and a mild detergent will do the job.

Does Catherine Stone Porcelain need sealing?

Nope. Unlike natural sandstone, porcelain paving is non-porous and does not require sealing. This reduces installation time, maintenance, and long-term costs, making it a great investment.

How soon can I walk on porcelain slabs after laying them?

We recommend leaving your porcelain slabs for 24 hours before using them. This allows them sufficient time to settle in place, and for the mortar, primer, and grout to fully dry.

Do I need to be home to receive my Catherine Stone Porcelain?

Nope! If you have a specific location in mind for us to leave your order, let us know in your order notes. You can use What3Words or even leave out a tarpaulin, wheelbarrow, or bin, etc, with a note saying ‘Please leave here.’

HOW TO INSTALL PORCELAIN PAVING

Tools You’ll Need

  • Wheelbarrow
  • Tape measure
  • Shovel
  • Rubber mallet
  • String Line / Spirit Level
  • Broom
  • Pointing Trowel
  • Protective Clothing

Follow these 8 easy steps for a flawless installation of your Catherine Stone Porcelain paving:

  1. Ensure the area is fully cleared of existing stone, turf, weeds or debris.
  2. Check there’s adequate drainage – this should be 150-200mm below ground level and gently slope away from any buildings to a location where water can drain.
  3. Add a 100-150mm layer of subbase (gravel or sharp sand). Compress it down to a level, compact surface with no gaps.
  4. Add a 40-50mm layer of mortar to provide a robust, sturdy foundation for your slabs.
  5. Apply Azpect EasyPrime to the back of your porcelain slabs to strengthen the bond between the slabs and the mortar.
  6. Lay your porcelain slabs, using a rubber mallet to gently tap them into place, and a spirit level to ensure they remain even. Use spaces between slabs to ensure equal joint sizes throughout.
  7. Easily and efficiently sweep Azpect EasyJoint across your paving slabs to fill and seal the joints.
  8. Wash away any excess paving grout and leave it to fully dry and cure in place. Wait for 24 hours before walking on them.
