What sets granite, limestone, and sandstone paving apart?

Granite is known for its exceptional strength and durability and is an ideal choice for paving in areas that experience heavy foot traffic or bear the weight of vehicles. Limestone is prized for its consistent colour and subtle patterns, which give it a sleek, contemporary appeal. Unlike other natural stones, limestone offers a more uniform look, making it an excellent choice for creating clean lines and a cohesive design. The rich, diverse hues and organic feel of Sandstone can create a warm, inviting atmosphere, perfect for gardens, patios, or pathways where a natural and relaxed aesthetic is preferred.

What are the benefits of natural stone paving?

Natural stone paving is durable and long-lasting, ensuring that your patio or driveway remains beautiful for many years. Each piece of natural stone is distinct, with subtle variations in colour and pattern, adding a one-of-a-kind character to your outdoor space. This natural uniqueness transforms your landscape into a truly bespoke area, offering both timeless beauty and resilience.

Should I lay anything under my decorative aggregate?

A weed-resistant fabric should be laid beneath your aggregate. By choosing a permeable membrane, essential water and nutrients keep your soil healthy but prevent any weeds from coming through and ruining the aesthetics of your aggregate.

Do I need to prepare my ground for aggregate?

For the best and longest-lasting results, we always recommend preparing the ground where your aggregate will lay. With soil, be sure to thoroughly de-weed the area and create a smooth, even surface for your hardcore, membrane, and aggregate to lay on. For concrete, be sure to sweep the area and de-weed before laying down your sand, membrane, and aggregate.

How deep should decorative aggregate be?

This depends on the type of aggregate you’re laying. There should be guidance on your product’s packaging, but we suggest:

  • 40mm for small aggregate (4-10mm)
  • 50mm for medium aggregate (11-20mm)
  • 100mm for large aggregate (21mm+)

How much aggregate do I need?

A good rule of thumb for knowing how much aggregate you need is – 1000kg to cover 10m2 at 1 inch deep. Always measure your area of land before ordering. You can calculate your coverage by multiplying the length by the width of the area to give you your square metre.
