How to install Millboard Board and Batten Cladding

Board and Batten Cladding is an easy solution to transform your external space and can be installed by yourself within a few steps:

  1. Prepare your cladding by laying it outside, ready to go.
  2. Ensure the surface you're applying cladding to is clean, sanding any lumps and bumps for a smooth surface.
  3. If there are any crumbling surfaces, be sure to resolve these areas before attaching your cladding.
  4. Start by fitting the batten frame to your wall, making it easier to attach each cladding piece.
  5. Once secure and starting from the edge, place your first cladding panel against the batten.
  6. Screw the cladding into the battens via the pre-drilled holes.
  7. Follow this process with your remaining cladding boards.

How to Care for Millboard Cladding

Wipe down your Board & Batten+ Cladding as soon as it's been installed. Soapy water and a brush/sponge will be enough to remove any dirt or dust and leave a spectacular finish. Always start at the top of your Millboard cladding and work your way down the grain so any grime or residue falls to the bottom. You can use a pressure washer on your Board & Batten+ Cladding, but Millboard recommends a maximum PSI of 2,000 with a 40 to 60-degree speed fan tip. Take extra care when using a pressure washer, as direct and intense contact could leave lasting damage to the surface of your cladding.
